Real-Life Work Experience
We provide young, talented individuals with a real insight into a fast-paced digital marketing agency. You will carry out meaningful work for paying clients who expect perfection. You’ll gain valuable marketing skills, whether you choose to work in copywriting, graphic design or social media.
You’ll develop an understanding of how a digital marketing agency works on a day-to-day basis. This will include working with a range of different programs, including WordPress, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Hootsuite. You won’t just be making notes!
What To Expect
Once we have confirmed your placement, you will come to our office in Southampton at 9:30am with the day finishing at 5:30pm. We are conveniently based in the centre of Southampton and are within walking distance from the train station with easy routes and access to the M27.
Depending on what department you are working in, you will be set tasks throughout the day to complete within a given timeframe. Although ICAAL have a range of different clients, we primarily focus on the home improvement market. You’ll be expected to become familiar with the jargon!
Do I Qualify?
We do our best to accommodate as many people as possible, but have some criteria you’ll need to meet before being accepted onto the ICAAL Academy. We can only take on students who are over the age of 16 but most often cater to those over 18 who are currently studying at university. Our programme isn’t available for those already in full-time work in a similar field.
Our programme is designed for those who have a good technical ability in their field but would massively benefit from real-life work experience. If you’re interested in a copywriting placement, you would need to be studying a relevant qualification and would need displayable proof of your writing ability. For graphic design placements, you would need intermediate knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator.

It’s a very good work experience where you do real work for real clients, unlike many work experiences where you just make tea and coffee. I will remember my time here and will consider it for an apprenticeship and future job.

Contact ICAAL today by leaving your details on our online contact form below. Whether you’re fresh out of college, at university or have just graduated, you can get in touch to discuss getting some industry experience which could lead to a freelance or full-time position with us.
Interview
We may invite you in for an interview to discuss what you’d like to get out of your work experience with ICAAL and whether we’re the right fit for you and vice versa! We want to make sure that you know exactly what to expect and to get the most out of your work experience with us.
Begin Your Placement
The next stage is to come in and do your work experience as part of ICAAL’s Academy! You’ll get an idea of how the industry works, working on projects and campaigns and providing a valuable contribution to the company. You’ll be well looked after, with help on hand every step of the way.
Feedback
During and at the end of your work experience placement, we will sit down and discuss feedback on what you’ve produced during your time at ICAAL. Constructive criticism is essential when it comes to a career, and feedback also helps us deliver better work experience!
Graduate
Once you’ve finished your placement, you will be awarded an official certificate based on your efforts. However, your time with ICAAL may not be over! We are always looking to expand our team – if you impress you could be taken on in a freelance or full-time position.
